How do I get started?

If you are ready to get started, or if you have questions, please email Pastor Randy. He will help you to identify the best place for you to serve, considering your schedule and availability, your interests and what the current needs are at Gloria Dei.

What if I don't have skills?

Most of our volunteer positions don't require special skills, other than a willingness to serve. For those opportunities that require special skills, training is provided.

What if it's not a good fit?

No problem. Just let your ministry leader know, and we can plug you into another area.

Child Sponsorship

Gloria Dei has forged a relationship with a Ochuloi CarePoint in Uganda. Through this partnership congregation members have committed to sponsoring a child to help provide food, medical care, education, and discipleship. New sponsors are always welcome.

The Comfort Dog ministry provides a bridge to open doors for conversations about faith. The GDLC dog, Joy, is the bridge to connect members of Team Joy to people and share the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ.

From time to time our ministry partners will reach out for assistance with individuals or families in their ministry. This group receives a text message about the need and responds to the need as they're able.

There are many opportunities to volunteer and share your time, talents, knowledge and love of Jesus, directly benefiting the students and faculty at Day One Christian Academy.

Dei Break Cafe

The Dei Break Café brings a little touch of hospitality to Gloria Dei. We welcome everyone with a smile and provide delicious sweets and savory warm breakfast foods at a low cost for all who stop by.

ESL Instructors

Our GDE ESL volunteer teachers teach English to non-native speakers while sharing faith-based values, integrating biblical teachings into lessons, fostering spiritual growth, and building a supportive, loving community as part of their ministry.

Eucharist Ministers

Eucharist Ministers visit people who are homebound or in assisted living and provide communion and encouragement. Training is provided and a commitment to visit a minimum of once/month to an assigned individual/family.

GriefShare Facilitator

Lead a 13-week class that helps people work through their grief. Sessions are offered twice a year.

Hospital Visitation

A team of volunteers who visit people in the hospital. Training is provided and assignments are made through the Care team leaders.

LCM serves the Bacliff area through food ministry, short-term assistance, educational programs (such as GED), health and dental care, and a community resale store.

Lutheran Emergency Response Team

Lutheran Early Response Teams are trained teams that are prepared to respond when a disaster strikes. Training prepares the congregation and individuals to share Christ's love and mercy to those around you. LERT teams are prepared to serve through a ministry of presence while also serving the community through disaster response.

Meal Ministry

Meal Ministry volunteers prepare and deliver meals for Gloria Dei members that are going through a major life transition such as an illness, surgery, loss, hospitalization, or new baby in the family.

Medical Brigade

Gloria Dei partners with a congregation in San Pedro Sula Honduras with support for their community outreach through medical brigades. Individuals with a wide range of gifts and skills serve the medical brigade alongside members of Gloria Dei Honduras. This is a great way for various medical professionals to get involved in international missions

Middle & High School

At the core of serving our 6th-12th grade students is our small group leaders. Our small group leaders serve on Sunday morning to guide our students through their Bible based lesson while answering questions.

Mission Teams

Gloria Dei is active in International Mission in both Central America and Africa. We are currently sending teams to San Pedro Sula, Honduras and Soroti, Uganda. Teams travel to these countries for a week to two weeks at least once a year.

The Spiritual First Aid team is a part of our LERT team that goes in after disaster strikes and provides calming and prayer to those affected.

Our GDE volunteer translators use their language skills to translate written or spoken content, bridging communication gaps. They translate church materials, sermons, and community resources to make information accessible across cultures.

Ushers

We are in need of friendly, outgoing people who can interact with visitors and members. Opportunities to serve are available at both services (8:30 and 11am).

Worship Production

This rotating team assists in worship production by operating a camera, switching camera views, projecting lyrics or operating the lighting equipment. Training is provided and all areas are very user-friendly.
